This week, my First Grader is working on a new project: a Science Basket!

This week’s video is on this new idea of a science basket and I can’t wait to share the nitty gritty details with you!

Video will be posted on Tuesday!

Included in the basket is this set of leaf identification cards.

As I mention in the video, this week’s science basket is based on the book Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro.  This book is part of the Let’s Read and Find Out Science series, which I adore.

Why Do Leaves Change Color?

Sprinkled throughout this book are various types of leaves:  white oak, red maple, elm, aspen, red oak, birch, and more.

As one of the activities for her leaf science basket, I created a set of leaf identification cards for my daughter to use.

This set focuses on each of the 12 types of leaves found in the books.

While they were a bit hard to find, I’m thrilled that I was able locate real images of most of the leaves in the book.

There is nothing like seeing actual pictures of the leaves!

I printed the cards on cardstock and then laminated them with our favorite laminator for durability.

I know that we will use these cards many times, so I want them to last awhile.

These leaf identification cards are free for personal or classroom use.

Enjoy!
