My children have always loved comparing and contrasting. Often, we’ll choose two items, people, or places to compare and map out our data on our big 8-foot white board.
As their teacher/mama, I like that a Venn Diagram helps them learn to analyze and think critically about two or more situations or items.
Encouraging critical thinking skills in the early grades is so important, and I need to step up my game in that department!
Venn Diagrams are an easy activity to add to our week, so I have several created and ready to post.
Today, we’ll start with a spring and fall Venn Diagram!

Spring and Fall Venn Diagram
This activity involves comparing and contrasting two seemingly opposite seasons: spring and fall.
Since we are just starting to enjoy spring weather here in North Carolina, this is the perfect activity for us this week!
This Venn Diagram can be used with a wide variety of ages:
♥ For Preschoolers and Early Kindergarten – Brainstorm and let mom write down the answers on the diagram. Even though this age usually cannot read, they can certainly understand that you’re organizing data in specific places on the diagram.
♥ For Early Readers and Writers – After brainstorming your own answers, have this age cut out the suggestion and glue them on the correct places on the diagram.
♥ For Independent Readers and Writers – Use this as an independent activity, and you choose whether they’re allowed to use the given characteristics on the second page!
These sorting circles look like so much fun – and they’re huge!
