Our Favorite Books About Pumpkins

Today I’m sharing our favorite books about pumpkins!

Like apples and Johnny Appleseed, we study pumpkins each year because it’s such a timeless topic that my kiddos enjoy.

♥ Make sure you download all of the pumpkin worksheets and printables listed at the end of this post.

The Pumpkin Book

The Pumpkin Book by Gail Gibbons

As y’all know, Gail Gibbons is one of my favorite authors for non-fiction children’s books!

The beginning of The Pumpkin Book focuses on the pumpkin life cycle, and the latter half focuses on the traditional use of pumpkins during the holiday seasons of Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Too Many Pumpkins

Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White

This is a favorite that we read year-round!

Too Many Pumpkins is a delightful story about Rebecca Estelle, who turns her disdain of her overabundance of pumpkins into a way to bless her neighbors.

A must-read for your pumpkin unit study!

From Seed to Pumpkin

From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer

This is another in one of my favorite series for children: Let’s Read and Find Out Science.

From Seed to Pumpkin is a simple look at a pumpkin’s life cycle, written for Preschoolers to First Graders.

The text is simple and easy to follow – just right for my littlest learners!

Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin Pie

Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie by Kill Esbaum

The photography in Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie is breathtaking!  The up-close pictures of a pumpkin blossom alone are worth reserving this book at your local library.

Your Preschooler – First Grader will enjoy this simple-to-understand look at the pumpkin life cycle!

The Very Best Pumpkin

The Very Best Pumpkin by Mark Kimball Moulton

What a super cute book!

This book is also one that is read year-round!  The Very Best Pumpkin is a sweet story about a boy who find a puny little pumpkin and nourishes it to grow big and strong.

What a darling look at persistence, love, and friendship!

How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?

How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? by Margaret McNamara

What an excellent book for counting!  One-to-one counting as well as skip counting is reviewed.  Your Preschooler – First Grader will enjoy discovering how many seeds are in pumpkins (hint: it varies by the pumpkin!)

How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? also reinforces that bigger isn’t always better.
